Description

This Patch is now obsolete. It has been superceded by the ArcGIS 9.0 Service Pack 3.

Introduction

ESRIĀ® announces the ArcGIS Desktop 9.0 Geoprocessing Projection and Script Tools Patch. This Patch addresses an issue with projecting geodatabase features when applying a datum transformation. It also eliminates an issue with retrieving environment settings within script tools and incorrect behavior when a script tool has a layer as an output parameter. It deals specifically with the issues listed below under Issues Addressed with this Patch.

You must have ArcGIS Desktop 9.0 Service Pack 2 installed before installing this Patch. We recommend that all ArcGIS Desktop 9.0 customers, who project data or create or use script tools, download and install this patch at their earliest convenience to ensure the highest quality experience when working with ArcGIS Desktop 9.0.

Issues Addressed with this Patch

  • CQ00250928 - Projecting a feature class with a geographic (datum) transformation drops features. When the output xy domain is calculated, the geotransformation information wasn't used. This results in missing data in the area that corresponds to the datum shift. When features are transformed there is the potential for data loss of any features that fall along the outer edges of the data envelope.

  • When transformed, the shift due to the datum changes may cause these features to fall outside the newly calculated spatial extent.

  • Though initially discovered with a transformation from NAD83 to HARN this problem can occur on any dataset that is transformed and whose features fall outside the output xy spatial domain.

  • CQ00256747 - Environment settings do not return proper values within script tools.

  • Environment settings, such as the workspace may be set and properly used within a script utilized by a script tool, but the correct value is not returned when the value is accessed from the geoprocessor. This will cause problems when using logic that queries environment setting values.

  • CQ00257146 - A script tool with a feature layer as the output parameter type no longer works with ArcGIS 9.0 Service Pack 2.

  • Script tools that have an output parameter type of Feature layer or Raster layer will not produce the output layer. The layer is being deleted after the script tool completes, as it sees the output as a scratch or intermediate layer that should be deleted. This behavior was introduced with ArcGIS 9.0 Service Pack 2.

How to identify which Patch is installed

To check for the presence of a Patch, for each file examine the unique identification information provided (right click, properties, version tab, item name, QFE Version). With only a few exceptions, all files modified as part of a Patch distribution can be uniquely identified in this manner. The identification string for this Patch should read:
