This patch addresses several issues that may be encountered when synchronizing a replica.

Description

ESRI® announces the ArcGIS 9.3 SP1 (Desktop, Engine, Server) Geodatabase Replica Synchronization Patch. This patch addresses several issues that may be encountered when synchronizing a replica. We recommend that all who use geodatabase replication, download and install this Patch at their earliest convenience to ensure the highest quality experience when working with ArcGIS 9.3 Service Pack 1. It deals specifically with the issues listed below under Issues Addressed with this Patch.

Issues Addressed with this Patch

  • NIM040824 - Disconnected synchronization fails with 'system error' and an incomplete xml file is generated in certain cases.

    Description: In some scenarios, after synchronizing over many generations you may start to get incomplete delta XML files generated when exporting changes. This may be due to this issue which has been addressed in this patch.

  • NIM042136 - In some specific cases, synchronizing a replica causes the application to fail when the changes are associated with deleted related rows.

    Description: In some scenarios, after synchronizing over many generations you may start to see failures when synchronizing. This may be due to an issue with sending deleted related rows which has been addressed in this patch.

  • NIM043927 - Importing an exception with a NULL origin feature from a delta XML file is fataling the application.

    Description: The synchronization process can include errors that we marked as exceptions. The patch address the case where if the exception has a NULL origin feature, the application crashes. With this patch, these exceptions are ignored.

  • NIM046170 - Export changes fatals the application when an exception to the rule Must Be Larger Than Cluster Tolerance is exported.

    Description: The synchronization process can include errors that we marked as exceptions. The patch address the case where if the exception is for the rule Must Be Larger Than Cluster Tolerance, the application crashes. With this patch, these exceptions are ignored.

  • NIM046171 - Cannot export topology exception changes if the owner of the replica is not the owner of the topology.

    Description: The synchronization process can include errors that we marked as exceptions. The patch address the case where if the owner of the replica is not the owner of the topology, a “Topology was not found” error is returned, With this patch, the exceptions are exported correctly.

Installing the Patch on Windows

Since this Patch replaces 9.3 SP1 files, you must have ArcGIS 9.3 SP1 installed before you can install this Patch.

  1. Make sure you have write access to your ArcGIS installation location, and that no one is using ArcGIS.
  2. Download ArcGIS-93sp1-GeoRepSync-Patch.EXE to a location other than your ArcGIS installation location.
  3. Double-click ArcGIS-93sp1-GeoRepSync-Patch.EXE to start the install process. The Setup automatically detects the ArcGIS products you have installed (Desktop, Engine or Server) on your machine and executes the appropriate patch or patches accordingly.
  4. When Setup starts, follow the instructions on your screen.

Installation Notes:

  • If you have installed client setups from a shared Network Administrative ArcGIS setup, this patch must be applied to all client installations.
  • System Administrators - A technical paper is available that discusses the enterprise deployment of ArcGIS 9.3 setups using Microsoft® Systems Management Server (SMS) and Group Policy, including additional system requirements, suggestions, known issues, and Microsoft Software Installation (MSI) command line parameters. Deployment in a lockdown environment is also covered. 

Installing this Patch on Sun Solaris, SUSE Linux and Red Hat Linux (Intel)

Since this Patch replaces 9.3 SP1 files, you must have ArcGIS 9.3 SP1 installed before you can install this Patch.

Make sure you have write access to the ArcGIS Server installation folder, that no one is using ArcGIS Server.

  1. Download the appropriate file to a location other than the installation location:

     
    ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform
    SUSE Linux and Red Hat Linux (Intel) gis93sp1-server-georepsync-patch-linux.tar
    Sun Solaris gis93sp1-server-georepsync-patch-slrs.tar
     
    ArcGIS Engine Runtime
    SUSE Linux and Red Hat Linux (Intel) gis93sp1-engine-georepsync-patch-linux.tar
    Sun Solaris gis93sp1-engine-georepsync-patch-slrs.tar
     

  2. Stop your server.
    % arcgis/scripts/stopserver
  3. Extract the specified tar file by typing:
    % tar -xvf gis<version>-<product>-georepsync-patch-<platform>.tar
  4. Start the installation by typing:
    % ./applypatch
    This will start the dialog for the menu-driven installation procedure. Default selections are noted in parentheses ( ). To quit the installation procedure, type 'q' at any time.

  5. ArcGIS Server, type:
    • % /arcgis/scripts/startserver

To find out what ArcGIS products are currently installed on your machine, download and extract the PatchFinder utility from PatchFinder.tar and run it from your local machine.
