Installing the Service Pack
Installation Notes
It is important to keep all versions of ArcGIS products installed on the same machine in sync to avoid any software conflicts.
To find out what products are currently installed on your machine, download the ServicePackFinder92.exe utility and run it from your local machine. This utility provides a report detailing which ArcGIS products are currently installed on your machine. This will help determine which product Service Packs you should install on your machine. The report also details which service packs have been installed. The report is displayed when the utility is run and a servicepack.txt log file is created in your temp folder. The Service Pack Finder utility searches for the following ArcGIS products.- ArcGIS Desktop (ArcView, ArcEditor, ArcInfo) Includes the ArcReader fixes for the ArcReader FEATURE.
- ArcGIS Desktop Developer Kit for the Microsoft .NET Framework, VB6 and Visual C++
- ArcGIS ArcReader
- ArcGIS Engine Runtime
- ArcGIS Engine Developer Kit for C++, the Java Platform, the Microsoft .NET Framework, VB6 and Visual C++
- ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .NET Framework and the Java Platform
- ArcGIS Server Web ADF Runtime for the Microsoft .NET Framework
- ArcIMS Web ADF for the Microsoft .NET Framework and the Java Platform
- ArcIMS
- ArcSDE
NOTE (ArcIMS and ArcSDE users): If you use ArcIMS 9.2 or ArcSDE 9.2, you must also install ArcIMS 9.2 Service Pack 1 or ArcSDE 9.2 Service Pack 1 . For example, if you use ArcIMS 9.2 and ArcGIS 9.2 Desktop, install both ArcIMS 9.2 Service Pack 1 and ArcGIS 9.2 Desktop Service Pack 1. Since ArcIMS 9.2, ArcSDE 9.2 and the ArcGIS 9.2 products share common DLLs, it is important to keep the software release versions in sync to avoid any software conflicts.
NOTE (ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 Evaluation Edition users): This Service Pack is supported with the ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 Evaluation Edition.
NOTE (ArcGIS Server, Engine and Reader users on UNIX): This Service Pack is only available on Windows; it is not available on the Sun or Linux platform. Please note that the Windows 9.2 SP1 clients are fully compatible with the Sun and Linux 9.2 servers for these products. Also, the 9.2 Sun and Linux clients are compatible with the 9.2 SP 1 Windows servers.
NOTE (ArcGIS Server): The ArcGIS Server Post Install will automatically launch after the service pack has been applied. The Post Install will prompt for the ArcGIS Server Object Manager (SOM), ArcGIS Server Object Container (SOC) and the ArcGIS Server Web Services user accounts and their associated passwords. To avoid disrupting the operation of your server installation you will need to use the exact same accounts and passwords that you used when you initially installed ArcGIS Server (or the last time you ran the Post Install). If you don't remember which ones you used you can have the Post Install create new ones for you, but you will need to update the permissions on your data and output directories to grant access to the new ArcGIS Server Object Container (SOC) account. For help on getting started after installing ArcGIS Server, refer to the Administering the server--> Getting started after install topic in ArcGIS Server Help. You can access the ArcGIS Server Help online at http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisserver/9.2.
NOTE: If you are using ArcSDE data sources, you must apply the ArcSDE 9.2 SP 1 client install for your particular platform. Since the ArcGIS 9.2 products share common DLLs, it is important to keep the software release versions in sync to avoid any software conflicts.
Notes for ArcGIS Server Web ADF Runtime for the Microsoft .Net Framework users:
NOTE 1: After you install the Web ADF Runtime for the Microsoft .NET Framework Service Pack 1, you should download the ArcGIS Server and ArcIMS Web Application Migration Utility to update your Web Mapping Applications created with 9.2 Final. This update will resolve issues when users view the application using Internet Explorer 7.
NOTE 2: The ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .Net Framework setup has a Service Pack 1 setup named ArcGISServerDotNet92sp1.msp.
The 9.2 release also includes a setup for the Web Application Developer Framework (ADF) Runtime. This Runtime installation is installed on production machines where you plan to deploy Web Mapping Applications built with the Manager or the Web ADF. The ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .Net Framework Web ADF Runtime setup has a Service Pack 1 setup named ArcGISServerWebADFRuntime92sp1.msp.
- Note: A machine that has the ArcGISServerDotNet92sp1.msp installed would not require an installation of the ArcGISServerWebADFRuntime92sp1.msp.
- ArcGIS Desktop (ArcView, ArcEditor, ArcInfo) Includes the ArcReader fixes for the ArcReader FEATURE.
