ArcGIS 10 SP2 (Desktop, Engine, Server) Geocoding – Memory Leak for Composite Locators Patch

Summary

This patch addresses an issue that occurs in 10.0, 10.0 SP1 and 10.0 SP2 for a memory leak in composite locators for table matching in ArcGIS Desktop and single address geocoding in ArcGIS Desktop, Engine and Server.

Description

ESRI® announces the ArcGIS 10 Service Pack 2 (Desktop, Engine, Server) Geocoding – Memory Leak for Composite Locators Patch. This patch addresses an issue that occurs in 10.0, 10.0 SP1 and 10.0 SP2 for a memory leak in composite locators for table matching in ArcGIS Desktop and single address geocoding in ArcGIS Desktop, Engine and Server. It deals specifically with the issues listed below under Issues Addressed with this Patch.

 

Issues Addressed with this Patch

  • NIM066846- Composite locator leaks memory in ArcGIS Server and may cause stability issues with the geocode service if system resources get low.

    Description: When geocoding with a composite locator that is published to ArcGIS Server, memory continues to grow and will not be released until the service is stopped or the service is restarted. If system resources become low, stability issues can occur with the geocoding service.

Installing this Patch on Windows

Installation Notes:

  • System Administrators - A technical paper is available that discusses the enterprise deployment of ArcGIS 10 setups using Microsoft® Systems Management Server (SMS) and Group Policy, including additional system requirements, suggestions, known issues, and Microsoft Software Installation (MSI) command line parameters. ArcGIS 10 Service Pack 2 Desktop, Engine, Reader or Server must be installed before you can install this patch.
  1. Download the appropriate file to a location other than your ArcGIS installation location.

    ArcGIS Engine Gis10sp2-E-GMLCL-Patch.msp
     
    ArcReader Gis10sp2-R-GMLCL-Patch.msp

  2. Make sure you have write access to your ArcGIS installation location.
  3. For ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .NET Framework Only: Open the Services Management Console> Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Stop the ArcGIS Server Object Manager and ArcGIS Server SOC Monitor services.

    For ArcGIS Server Java Only: Open the Services Management Console> Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Stop the ArcGIS Server Object Manager; ArcGIS Server SOC Monitor and ArcGIS Server Manager services.
  4. Double-click Gis10sp2-<Product>-Patch.msp to start the install process.

    NOTE: If double clicking on the MSP file does not start the Patch installation, you can start the Patch installation manually by using the following command:

    • msiexec.exe /p [location of Patch]\Gis10sp2-<Product>-Patch.msp
  5. When Setup starts, follow the instructions on your screen. At the end of the installation, follow the instructions to run the GIS Server Post Install.
  6. For ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .NET Framework Only: Open the Services Management Console> Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Start the ArcGIS Server Object Manager and ArcGIS Server SOC Monitor services.

    For ArcGIS Server Java Only: Open the Services Management Console> Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Start the ArcGIS Server Object Manager; ArcGIS Server SOC Monitor and ArcGIS Server Manager services.

 

Installing this Patch on Linux and Solaris

Complete the following install steps as the ArcGIS Install owner. The Install owner is the owner of the arcgis folder.

ArcGIS 10.0 Service Pack 2 Engine, Reader or Server must be installed before you can install this Patch.

  1. Download the appropriate file to a location other than your ArcGIS installation location.


    ArcGIS Engine for Linux Gis10sp2-E-GMLCL-Patch-linux.tar
     
    ArcGIS Engine for Solaris Gis10sp2-E-GMLCL-Patch-slrs.tar
     
    ArcGIS Reader for Linux Gis10sp2-R-GMLCL-Patch-linux.tar
     
    ArcGIS Reader for Solaris Gis10sp2-R-GMLCL-Patch-slrs.tar
     
    ArcGIS Server for Linux Gis10sp2-S-GMLCL-Patch-linux.tar
     
    ArcGIS Server for Solaris Gis10sp2-S-GMLCL-Patch-slrs.tar


  2. Make sure you have write access to your ArcGIS installation location, and that no one is using ArcGIS.
  3. For ArcGIS Server only: stop the ArcGIS server by typing:
    % arcgis/scripts/stopserver
  4. Extract the specified tar file by typing:
    % tar -xvf Gis10sp2-E-GMLCL-Patch-linux.tar (Linux)
    % tar -xvf Gis10sp2-E-GMLCL-Patch-slrs.tar (Sun Solaris)
    % tar -xvf Gis10sp2-R-GMLCL-Patch-linux.tar (Linux)
    % tar -xvf Gis10sp2-R-GMLCL-Patch-slrs.tar (Sun Solaris)
    % tar -xvf Gis10sp2-S-GMLCL-Patch-linux.tar (Linux)
    % tar -xvf Gis10sp2-S-GMLCL-Patch-slrs.tar (Sun Solaris)
  5. Start the installation by typing:
    % ./applypatch
    This will start the dialog for the menu-driven installation procedure. Default selections are noted in parentheses ( ). To quit the installation procedure, type 'q' at any time.
  6. For ArcGIS Server only: start the ArcGIS Server by typing:

    • % arcgis/scripts/startserver
