Wrong column type error caused by snapping complex edges

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Error Message

Creating a geometric network with complex edges that are stored using SDO Geometry, where the snapping tolerance causes complex edges to be snapped, returns the following error message:

"Wrong column type".

Solution or Workaround

A fix for this issue is included within ArcGIS 9.2 Service Pack 6.

This error can also be avoided by using one of the following workarounds:

  1. Copy the data and create the geometric network within a File Geodatabase. Once the geometric network is created, copy the data back into the ArcSDE Geodatabase making sure the correct configuration keyword is used for the SDO_Geometry geometry storage type.
  2. Create the geometric network without snapping, or specify the polyline feature classes to be simple edges as opposed to complex edges.
