Windows Installer cannot be accessed

Error Message

When starting to install ArcGIS, the system returns the error:

Windows Installer cannot be accessed

Cause

The MSI Server ImagePath registry setting is incorrect.

1. Click Start > Run. In the Run dialog box, type 'regedit' and click OK.
2. Navigate to HK_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer.
3. Locate and double-click the ImagePath String Value. In the Edit String dialog box, edit the Value Data field:
   • For Windows NT/2000:

     c:\winnt\system32\msiexec.exe /V

   • For Windows XP:

     c:\windows\system32\msiexec.exe /V

     Click OK in the Edit String dialog box and exit the Registry.
4. Open a Command Prompt.
   • For Windows NT/2000, click Start > Programs >Accessories > Command Prompt.
   •  For Windows XP, click Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt
5. At the prompt, type:

   msiexec /unregister

   and press Enter, followed by

   msiexec /register

   Press Enter.
   Type 'exit' to close the Command Prompt.
6. Reboot the machine and restart the ArcGIS install.
