Frequently asked question

Why does converting VPF data to a shapefile create different shape types depending on the platform?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

The VPF Viewer extension interprets the VPF differently between UNIX and Windows. A VPF file may show 'polygonZ' for the shape type in the attribute table on UNIX and 'polygon' in the attribute table on Windows.

When the VPF data is converted to a shapefile, the same feature type that is read into Arcview will be used as the feature type for the shapefile.
