Frequently asked question

Why can I no longer use a space or underscore in a check-out name?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

In ArcGIS 9.2, replica names, referred to as check-out names prior to ArcGIS 9.2, are validated to ensure they do not contain DBMS specific invalid characters or reserved words. This is necessary because internally the replica name is used to create system tables. This validation applies to names for all replica types: two-way/one-way replicas and check-out/check-in replicas. Each DBMS has its own list of invalid characters and reserved words. The replica name must be valid for the database that is being used. Replica name validation is done with IfieldChecker::ValidateTableName. See the link in the Related Information below for additional documentation.

Note:
Existing check-outs created with previous versions of ArcGIS still work when checked in. This validation occurs for all check-outs created using ArcGIS 9.2.
