HOW TO

Use the signIn URL parameter to a survey in the Survey123 web app for Portal for ArcGIS

Last Published: December 16, 2025

Summary

The signIn URL parameter shows the sign-in button or requires users to sign in for public surveys. Public surveys can include features that would only work when users are signed in.

For survey forms hosted in Portal for ArcGIS, the valid value used is ‘require’ which allows the users to sign in by redirecting to the sign-in page and provide a convenient login experience in the browser.

Procedure

  1. Create a survey form hosted in the Portal for ArcGIS with the URL consisting of:
https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/c15325132c544cb790c58f4273c3b520?portalUrl=https://organization.domian.com/webadaptorinstancename
  1. Add the &signIn=require URL parameter as shown in the following example to redirect to the sign-in page of the Portal for ArcGIS:
https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/c15325132c544cb790c58f4273c3b520?portalUrl=https://organization.domain.com/webadaptorinstancename &signIn=require
Note:
• In contrast to ArcGIS Online where we utilize the parameter in the format
"https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/36ff9e8c13e042a58cfce4ad87f55d19?signIn=require," when working with Portal for ArcGIS, we should use the ‘&’ symbol (ampersand). This is necessary because we already employ the parameter ?portalURL to indicate that the survey is hosted within the portal. • Each next parameter must be appended by ‘&’ character.
