Use the Q4 2006 Street Data Update in Canada

Last Published: April 25, 2020

The ArcLogistics Route Street Data Update for Q4 2006 now includes Canada.

Instructions provided describe a few additional steps to take before using this data in Canada.

Update the Background files, use Kilometers instead of Miles, and take into account the geocoding rules.

  1. Update Background files from the data DVD.

When ArcLogistics Route is installed, it creates a directory called 'Background'. For example, if it is installed in 'C:\Program Files\ESRI\ArcLogistics Route', this directory ia 'C:\Program Files\ESRI\ArcLogistics Route\Background'.

The Data Update DVD also has a directory named ‘Backgrnd’.

Copy the files from the ‘Backgrnd’ directory on the DVD to the ‘Background’ directory where ArcLogistics is installed on your hard disk.

Copying these files is not absolutely critical, but it makes the Map View look better. Instead of having a blue background, it has a tan background after the states file is updated to include areas in Canada.
  2. Change ArcLogistics Route to display distance units in Kilometers instead of Miles.

On the data DVD, there is a directory named 'Utility'. Browse to this directory using Windows Explorer and double-click MilesOrKilometers.exe to run this program. It allows switching from Miles to Kilometers for each of the Street Data sets.

There are a few things to be aware of when geocoding Canadian addresses:

    · Use 3 digit postal codes. Similar to US geocoding, ALR does not use the Zip+4 format and uses a 5 digit zip code.

    · Use 2 digit state codes. Longer state codes will be truncated to 2 digits.
