ArcGIS for Desktop - Single Use
1. Uninstall ArcGIS Desktop 10.0 (without deauthorization of the license).
2. Install ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1.
3. When prompted to upgrade licenses, click 'Yes' to complete the upgrade process.
Note:
Note that a license can only be upgraded if it is current on maintenance. If this process fails, contact Esri Customer Service to verify that the account is current on maintenance.
If the above step has been already skipped and the system's installed licenses need to upgraded your 10.1, follow this workflow:
1. Launch ArcGIS Administrator.
2. Select Support Operations.
3. Click 'Upgrade Now...'.
4. If an internet connection is available:
a. Chose the online authorization/upgrade option.
b. Licenses are entered automatically.
c. Follow the prompts to complete the upgrade.
5. If an internet connection is not available:
a. Chose the offline authorization/upgrade option.
b. Licenses are entered automatically.
c. This generates an upgrade/authorization file.
d. Upload the result to
Esri Customer Care.
e. Double-click the resulting license file and follow the prompts in the Software Authorization Wizard to complete the authorization.
Common Issues• Authorization limits remain in effect for 10.1 as they existed at 10.0. Thus, customers that currently have five licenses at 10.0 which were upgraded to 10.1 licenses, have five upgrades available, but zero licenses available for new deployments.
• It is not possible to authorize licenses beyond the limits of the account. Check the
Customer Care Portal to ensure that available authorizations are not being exceeded.
License Accounting and UpgradesThe license numbers (ESU123456789) provided with ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 are essentially upgrades of the previous licenses that were issued at ArcGIS Desktop 10.0. Therefore, to move to ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 the options are:
• Use the upgrade workflow above on the same system to upgrade the ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 installation (recommended).
• De-authorize ArcGIS Desktop 10.0, and authorize ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 (this is only necessary if moving the license to another system).
Backwards CompatibilitySingle-use 10.1 licenses can authorize either ArcGIS 10.0 or 10.1, but not 9.x products.
ArcGIS for Desktop - Concurrent Use
1. Uninstall version 10.0 of ArcGIS License Manager.
2. Install version 10.1 of ArcGIS License Manager.
3. Launch ArcGIS License Server Administrator 10.1.
4. Select 'Authorization'.
5. Click 'Upgrade Now...'.
6. If an internet connection is available:
a. Chose the online authorization/upgrade option.
b. Licenses are filled in automatically.
c. Follow the prompts to complete the upgrade.
7. If an internet connection is not available:
a. Chose the offline authorization/upgrade option.
b. Licenses are filled out automatically.
c. This generates an upgrade/authorization file.
d. Upload the result to
Esri Customer Care.
e. Double-click the resulting license file and follow the prompts in the Software Authorization Wizard to complete the authorization.
Common Issues• Only licenses that are authorized to the particular License Manager being used can be upgraded.
• Licenses currently borrowed cannot be upgraded. If any licenses are borrowed, they must be returned before they can be upgraded to 10.1, but that can be done separately at a later time.
• Authorization limits remain in effect for 10.1 as they exist at 10.0. Thus, an organization that has purchased and deployed five licenses at 10.0 that were upgraded to 10.1 licenses, must either install 10.1 on the five currently deployed machines, or de-authorize one or more of those machines to use a 10.1 license on another system.
• It is not possible to authorize licenses beyond the limits of the account. Check the
Customer Care Portal to ensure that available authorizations are not being exceeded.
License Accounting and UpgradesThe license numbers (EFL123456789) provided with ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 are essentially upgrades of the previous licenses that were issued at ArcGIS Desktop 10.0. Therefore, to move to ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 the options are:
• Use the upgrade workflow above on the same system to upgrade the ArcGIS License Manager 10.1 installation (recommended).
• De-authorize ArcGIS License Manager 10.0, and authorize ArcGIS License Manager 10.1 (this is only necessary if the license is being moved to another system).
Backwards CompatibilityThe ArcGIS License Manager is the very first ArcGIS technology that should be upgraded because it is (backward) compatible with ArcGIS 10.1, 10.0, and all 9.x products.
