Description

When attempting to change the ownership of a Location Sharing track view in ArcGIS Online, the transfer fails, and the following error is returned:

Unable to transfer item. The service '<service name>' has views that are related to other services.

change owner error

Cause

When Location Sharing is enabled, ArcGIS Online creates a primary Location sharing hosted feature layer in the Location sharing folder of the administrator who enabled the capability.

Track views created through Track Viewer are dependent on the primary Location Sharing hosted feature layer. ArcGIS Online requires that a primary hosted feature layer and its dependent hosted layers to have the same owner.

The error occurs because the ownership transfer is initiated from an individual track view. The track view is related to the primary hosted feature layer and other Location Sharing services and, therefore, cannot be transferred independently.
The ownership transfer must be initiated from the primary Location Sharing hosted feature layer so that all related items are transferred to the same owner.

Solution or Workaround

Initiate the ownership transfer from the main Location Sharing hosted feature layer instead of the individual track view.

  1. Sign in to ArcGIS Online as an administrator.
  2. Open the current owner’s Location sharing folder.
  3. Locate the main Location Sharing hosted feature layer.
  4. Select the main hosted feature layer and click Change Owner.
  5. Select the receiving administrator and complete the transfer.
  6. Confirm that the main hosted feature layer and its related layers and track views now show the receiving administrator as their owner.

When the ownership of the main Location Sharing hosted feature layer is changed, its related layers and track views are automatically transferred to the new owner.
