BUG

Unable to sign in to ArcGIS GeoEvent Manager 10.8 on a Windows Amazon EC2 instance

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

When deploying ArcGIS GeoEvent Server via the 10.8 CloudFormation templates, 10.8 ArcGIS Enterprise for Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud Builder, or an Esri Windows Amazon Machine Image (AMI) through the AWS Management Console, you may not be able to access the following URL:

https://mymachine.mydomain.com:6143/geoevent/manager

This error is returned when attempting to open ArcGIS GeoEvent Manager, and varies by web browser, but in all cases, the GeoEvent Manager does not load.

Cause

ArcGIS GeoEvent Server has a corrupted com.esri.ges.gateway.cfg file due to a hostname change.

This is associated with a known defect, BUG-000129045 .

Workaround

  1. Using a Windows Administrator account, make a remote desktop connection to the Windows Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) machine on which GeoEvent is installed.
  2. Open Windows Services Manager (services.msc) on the EC2 machine.
  3. Stop the ArcGIS GeoEvent Server and GeoEvent Gateway Windows services.
  4. Locate and delete the GeoEvent Gateway configuration file. A new file is created when you restart the GeoEvent Windows service. The default location is as follows:
C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Server\GeoEvent\etc\com.esri.ges.gatewy.cfg
  1. Start the ArcGIS GeoEvent Gateway Windows service and confirm a new com.esri.ges.gatewy.cfg has been created.
  2. Start the ArcGIS GeoEvent Server Windows service.
  3. Confirm you can sign in to GeoEvent Manager.
