Unable to save changes to the Windows services file

After adding an entry to the Windows services file for an ArcSDE service name and port, the file cannot be saved.


Only administrators can save changes to the Windows services file. Logging in to the server as a member of the Windows administrators group is not sufficient; the file must be opened as an administrator.

Solution or Workaround

Open Notepad or another text editor with the option 'Run as administrator'. The file can be edited and saved.
