Unable to remove ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise portal connections in ArcGIS Pro

Description

This article provides the steps to address some common issues that may be encountered with portal connections in ArcGIS Pro.

Inability to set Portal Connection as Active

When there are multiple portal connections in ArcGIS Pro, it may not be possible to designate a preferred portal connection as Active if the 'Set as Active Portal' option is grayed out, as shown in the next image.

In the image above, the option to Remove Portal Connection may also be grayed out.

  1. Open ArcGIS Pro and click Settings.
  2. In the navigation pane, click Portals.
  3. Click the three dots next to the portal URL to remove.
  4. Note that the Remove Portal Connection option is inactivated.

The ArcGIS Pro Profile Access feature experiences a looping issue during the Refresh process

When opening a new project in ArcGIS Pro, in the Sign-in Status field at the top right-hand side of the project window, the profile keeps refreshing.

Portal displays "Not signed in" upon logging into ArcGIS Pro

Users are required to click the Refresh button to sign in each time, despite already being logged into the portal. To do this:

  1. Navigate to ArcGIS Pro > Settings > Portals.
  2. Click the three dots next to the portal URL to access, and select Sign in. Click Refresh.

Solution or Workaround

Before following these steps, make sure you have administrative privileges on the computer.

The AuthorizationPortal registry key ensures that Pro uses this URL as the default sign-in page upon launch.

  1. Exit ArcGIS Pro if it is running.
  2. Open the Windows Registry Editor.
  3. Navigate to the following node:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ESRI\ArcGIS Online for Pro\SignIn
  1. Double-click the (Default) key.
  2. In the Edit String dialog, under Value data, enter the URL of the ArcGIS Online/ArcGIS Enterprise Organization and click OK. For example:

    • For ArcGIS Online:
https://testingagol.maps.arcgis.com/

    • For ArcGIS Enterprise:
https://DNS/webadaptorname
  1. Repeat this change for the AuthorizationPortal key.
  2. Navigate to the ArcGIS Online for Pro > Portals node.
  3. Double-click the AuthorizationPortal key.
  4. Repeat Step 5 above to edit the following keys:
    • (Default)
    • URL0
  5. Close the Registry Editor.

If you are unable to remove 'Portal Connections' in any of the scenarios mentioned above, please follow the steps below to remove the URLs from the Windows Registry:

  1. Go to the following registry node:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ESRI\ArcGIS Online For Pro\SignIn\ 
  1. Right-click the URL under the SignIn folder tree and click Delete. Similarly, you can remove other URLs.
