Unable to open file c:\users\default\xxatdxfarc.dxfinfo

Error Message

Converting a DXF file using Arctools Command Tools fails with the following message:

Unable to open file c:\users\default\xxatdxfarc.dxfinfo

Cause

When ArcInfo was installed, the default working directory was set to c:\users\default.

The error is occurring because the c:\users\default directory was deleted sometime after the installation of ArcInfo, and ArcTools is still set to use c:\users\default as a temporary directory when invoking an operation from an ArcTools menu; thus, DXFARC could never create the temporary file xxatdxfarc.dxfinfo.

Solution or Workaround

• Option 1: Create a c:\users\default directory so the operation DXFARC and other operations invoked from ArcTools can write temporary files to this directory.
• Option 2: You can uninstall and reinstall the usersetup.exe portion of the ArcInfo installation and specify a different User's Default Workspace that will remain present on your system, such as C:\temp.
