Description
Editing an ArcGIS for Server feature service participating in a geometric network in ArcGIS Online fails with no error.
Cause
If an ArcGIS for Server feature service participating in a geometric network is re-projected on-the-fly, the feature service cannot be edited in ArcGIS Online. This is a known limitation.
Additionally, a feature service participating in a geometric network cannot be edited in ArcGIS Online if the feature service uses a basemap of a different projection. In some instances, having a vertical coordinate system results in the feature service being projected on-the-fly.
Solution or Workaround
Select one of the options below before republishing.
- Change the coordinate system to match the coordinate system of the default basemap, which is in the WGS 1984 Web Mercator. To do this in ArcMap, refer to the following documentation, ArcGIS Help: Specifying a coordinate system.
- Set the data frame to the coordinate system of the feature dataset, publish the dataset, and add the service to a custom basemap matching the coordinate system of the feature service. For more information, refer to the following documentation, Using custom basemaps.
- Do not use a vertical coordinate system. For more information, refer to the following documentation, HowTo: Remove Z- and/or M-values from a feature class.
