This file does not have a program associated

Error Message

When installing ArcGIS Desktop, the following error message displays:

"This file does not have a program associated."

Cause

The computer is not properly associating the setup.exe with the Microsoft install executable, msiexec.exe.

Solution or Workaround

1. Start Windows Explorer and browse to the DVD-ROM.
2. Open the Desktop folder and double-click on setup.msi.
   
   Alternatively, copy the entire Desktop folder and paste to C:\. Double-click on C:\Desktop\setup.msi.
