The stored credentials in ArcGIS Online are not available for branch versioned services

Description

When adding secure ArcGIS Enterprise services to ArcGIS Online, the Store credentials with service item option may not appear for services published from branch versioned enterprise geodatabase data.

The behavior is specific to referenced services associated with branch versioned datasets, while services using non-versioned data continue to display the option normally.

Cause

The enterprise geodatabase connection used to publish the service was configured with a different versioning type than the underlying datasets.

In this case, the datasets were branch versioned, but the database connection properties were set to Traditional versioning. This mismatch prevents ArcGIS Online from recognizing the service in a way that supports stored credentials.

Solution or Workaround

Ensure that the enterprise geodatabase connection properties match the versioning type of the datasets before publishing the services as referenced services.

1. Verify the versioning type of the datasets in the enterprise geodatabase.
2. Confirm the versioning type configured in the enterprise geodatabase connection file (.sde).

3. Make sure both the datasets and the geodatabase connection use the same versioning type:
   • Branch versioned datasets > Branch versioned connection
   • Traditional versioned datasets > Traditional versioned connection
4. Republish the services as referenced services using the corrected geodatabase connection.
5. Add the services to ArcGIS Online again.

After republishing with matching versioning types, the Store credentials with service item option becomes available as expected.
