Symbology patches and colors disappear from the table of contents

Description

The symbology patches and colors disappear from the ArcMap Table of Contents and display only the layer names.

Cause

This is caused by a software conflict between ArcMap and Microsoft Intellipoint, and is a known limit with this mouse driver.

Solution or Workaround

1. Uninstall Microsoft Intellipoint from the computer and delete ipoint.exe.
   
   

   Note:
   The ipoint.exe file is located in the default location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint\ipoint.exe, or the location in which Microsoft  IntelliPoint was installed: <installation directory>\Microsoft IntelliPoint\ipoint.exe.
