Error Message

When starting ArcGIS, the following errors occur:

"SVCHOST.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows."

"NTAUTHORITY will shut down the system in 60 seconds."

Cause

The system is infected with the MsBlast.A virus. See the Related Information section for more information on the MsBlast.A virus.

Solution or Workaround

1. Contact a system administrator, IT staff, or Antivirus vendor for assistance in removing the virus.
2. Apply the Microsoft patch MS03-026 to alleviate the systems vulnerability to contracting the virus again. See the Related Information section for additional information on the MS03-026 patch.
3. Reinstall ArcGIS to remove any corruption caused by the virus.
