BUG

Some text characters disappear when exporting to EPS, PDF and AI when not using 'Embed all document fonts'

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

Some text characters disappear when exporting to EPS, PDF and AI when not using 'Embed all document fonts'.

Cause

The characters or glyphs selected in the character font are 255 or above.
[O-Image] Example of a glyph higher than 255
Glyphs numbered 255 or higher cannot be encoded correctly into ArcMap output without embedding the font.

Workaround

  • Use a font that contains the necessary glyphs in the first 255 characters.
  • Use a place holder character for those glyphs higher than 255 and manually edit them in the secondary application, such as Illustrator.
  • Export to PDF or EPS and embed the document fonts.
