Serve a PMF on the Internet so that ArcReader opens when it is clicked

Last Published: February 12, 2024

Summary

Note:
ArcReader 10.8.2 update on December 2021 was the last release. We encourage users of ArcReader to transition to the updated alternatives for publishing and sharing map packages with ArcGIS Pro, and workflows using the ArcGIS Pro version of the ArcGIS Publisher extension in conjunction with ArcGIS Field Maps.

Instructions provided describe how to serve a PMF (Published Map File, .pmf) on the Internet so that ArcReader opens when a hyperlink to the file is clicked.

Procedure

Register the MIME type for PMF in Internet Information Services (IIS). Use application/pmf as the MIME type.

  1. Start IIS, right-click on 'web sites' and select Properties.
  2. Under HTTP Headers, click the MIME types button.
  3. Register the extension with application/pmf as the MIME type.
