PROBLEM

Separate 3D texture fills cannot be applied simultaneously to the side and top of an extruded polygon

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

The 3D texture fill is only applied to the top of the polygon; the sides do not display, as expected. Additionally, there is no option to apply 3D texture fill to the sides.

Cause

This is a known limitation.

Solution or Workaround

The following are potential workarounds to this issue:

  • Create a 3D marker symbol to symbolize a point feature. See the ArcGIS Desktop Help Contents > Extensions > 3D Analyst > 3D Symbology > Symbolizing points with 3D symbols.
  • Construct a multipatch feature that has the desired texture already applied to it. A code sample is available at http://arcgisdeveloperonline.esri.com.
  • Convert an existing 3D marker symbol to a multipatch feature. A code sample is available at http://arcgisdeveloperonline.esri.com/.
  • Design 3D models using a third party application, Sketchup. Additional information is available at http://www.sketchup.com/gis/.

    Note:
ESRI does not support the samples provided above.
