Save a multi-layer or complex symbol to be used again

Instructions provided describe how to save a multi-layer or complex symbol as an EMF that can be used again in other map documents as an EMF picture marker symbol.

Procedure

1. Set up a very tiny map document page size, for example, 1cm x 1cm, in the ArcMap Page and Print Setup dialog box.
2. Symbolize a single graphic point with the custom multi-layer symbol.
3. Export the map document to EMF by way of File > Export Map. This EMF can then be used in other map documents as a picture marker symbol.
