PROBLEM

Red dot persists on maps in ArcGIS Pro

Last Published: March 30, 2026

Description

A red dot with a green outline appears on the map and cannot be removed, as shown in the next image. Turning layers on or off, removing all layers from the map, or attempting to edit features does not cause the symbol to disappear.

Cause

The symbol is generated by the Coordinate Conversion tool in ArcGIS Pro. When a coordinate is created using this tool, a red point marker is displayed at the selected location on the map.

This marker is not associated with any map layer and therefore is not affected by layer visibility, layer removal, or editing operations. Closing the Coordinate Conversion pane does not remove existing coordinate markers.

Solution or Workaround

To remove the coordinate marker(s), i.e., the red dots / red points, clear them from the Coordinate Conversion pane:

  1. Open the Coordinate Conversion pane by selecting the Coordinate Conversion button on the Map tab of the ribbon.
  2. In the Coordinate Conversion pane, select Clear All.

All coordinate markers, including the red dot with the green outline, are removed from the map.
