PROBLEM

Unable to use custom locators in ArcGIS Pro

First Published: November 27, 2025
Last Published: May 22, 2026

Description

In ArcGIS Pro, custom locators cannot be used after upgrading ArcGIS Enterprise.

Cause

  • Geocoding capabilities are not enabled by default when a locator is shared from ArcGIS Pro 3.6 to ArcGIS Enterprise 11.5 or later, as geocoding functionality is segregated as individual operations. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Capabilities for more information.
  • The connection between ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise is disconnected during the upgrade process.

Solution or Workaround

Enable the geocode operations in ArcGIS Server Manager

  1. Log in to ArcGIS Server Manager.
  2. On the Manage Services tab, select the locator.
  3. Click Capabilities and under Operations Allowed, check the Geocode Addresses and Find Address Candidates check boxes.
  4. Click Save and Restart.

Re-add the locator to ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise

  1. In ArcGIS Pro, re-add the custom locator from the portal. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Add locators to a project for instructions.
  2. In the ArcGIS Enterprise portal, re-add the default Esri World Geocoding Service. Refer to Portal for ArcGIS: Geocoding for more information.
  3. In ArcGIS Pro, re-add the Esri World Geocoding Service as the default locator. Refer to Problem: ArcGIS World Geocoding Service does not display in ArcGIS Pro for instructions.
