Unable to upgrade ArcGIS Image Server

Description

In a multiple-machine deployment of ArcGIS Server, when attempting to upgrade ArcGIS Image Server on a different machine than ArcGIS Server, the process fails and returns the following error message:

Error:
ArcGIS Server upgrade step 2 of 2: Failed. The machine does not have a valid license. Please authorize using the Software Authorization for ArcGIS Server wizard.

Then, when attempting to authorize the license file through the authorization wizard, the process fails and returns the following error message:

Error:
Unspecified error no valid feature found in the received authorization data. Please check the data you entered and try again.

Cause

There is no existing keycode file on the ArcGIS Server site machine, preventing the ArcGIS Image Server authorization process from completing successfully.

Solution or Workaround

In this scenario, Machine A hosts the main deployment of the ArcGIS Server site, and Machine B hosts ArcGIS Image Server.

1. Authorize Machine A with an available ArcGIS Server license. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: Authorize ArcGIS Server for additional information.
2. Authorize Machine B with the intended ArcGIS Image Server license. Refer to ArcGIS Image Server: Set up ArcGIS Image Server for instructions.
3. Upgrade the ArcGIS Enterprise deployment on Machine B. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: Upgrade ArcGIS Server for additional information.
4. Restart the ArcGIS Server service.
1. On Machine A, in the Windows search box, type services, and click the Services icon.
2. In the Services window, navigate to the ArcGIS Server service and click Restart.
