Error:
Unable to save your template changes
Check the layer settings and confirm that you have privileges required to make changes
Inspecting the network traffic, the following error is returned:
Error:
{"error": {
"code": 500,
"details": [],
"message": "Error performing update definition operation"
}}
Cause
To manage feature templates in Map Viewer, the feature layer must be a hosted feature layer. Managing feature templates for layers that reference registered data is not supported.
Solution or Workaround
Update the template using ArcGIS Pro
- Open the ArcGIS Pro project and click Project > Portals.
- Log in to the ArcGIS Enterprise portal and set it as the active portal.
- Click the back
icon. - Regenerate templates to match the current layer configuration without changing the existing correct templates. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Create all feature templates for a map or a layer for instructions. In this example, the Target Feature map is regenerated.
- In the Manage Templates pane, in the layer view, click the target layer. In this example, the selected layer is the Point layer under the Target Feature map.
- In the template view, click the preferred template and click Properties. In this example, the selected template is Point.
- In the Template Properties pane, on the General tab, review and configure the preferred properties. Click OK. In this example, the Description for the Point layer template properties is specified.
- Share the feature layer to the ArcGIS Enterprise portal. For Data and Layer Type, under Reference registered data, select Feature. In this example, Name is specified as Target_feature Templates_Copy.
The image shows the template editing configuration with the description edited in ArcGIS Pro.
Publish the feature layer using 'Copy all data' from ArcGIS Pro
- Repeat Steps 1 through 3 from the previous workaround.
- On the Share tab, in the Share as group, click Web Layer.
- Share the feature layer to the ArcGIS Enterprise portal. For Data and Layer Type, under Copy all data, select Feature. In this example, Name is specified as Target_feature Templates_Copy.
A message indicating that the template changes were successfully saved is returned when the layer is shared using 'Copy all data'.
