PROBLEM

Unable to share Esri default basemaps to a custom basemap gallery group

Last Published: January 28, 2021

Description

Basemaps from a custom basemap gallery group can be used for ArcGIS Online Map Viewer, Scene Viewer, and apps. This is done by creating a shared update group containing custom basemaps, selecting the group as the organization's basemap gallery, and clicking either button to share raster basemaps or vector basemaps with the group. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Basemap gallery for more information. In some instances, clicking the buttons fails to add Esri default basemaps to the group.

Cause

The capability of updating all items for the group members is enabled when creating the shared update group.

Solution or Workaround

Create a new shared update group, and ensure the All items option is unchecked. Refer to ArcGIS Blog: Create a custom basemap gallery for your organization for steps to create a custom basemap gallery group. When inserting the group details, scroll down to the What items in the group can its members update? section, and check the Only their own items option.

Follow the steps in the link provided above to set the new group as the basemap gallery, and select the Esri default vector or raster basemaps to add to the gallery.
