PROBLEM

Unable to select all categories in a single-select Category selector in ArcGIS Dashboards

First Published: August 10, 2026

Description

In ArcGIS Dashboards, a Category selector can be configured to filter a target layer based on category values. However, when the Category selector is configured for single selection with required selection enabled, the 'Show select all' option is unavailable, preventing users from configuring an 'All' option while retaining a default selection, as shown in the dashboard below.

The Category selector without ALL option

Cause

With the June 2026 ArcGIS Online update, a Category selector configured with single selection and required selection enabled no longer provides the 'Show select all' option. As a result, 'Show select all' cannot be added to a single-select Category selector while retaining the required default selection.

Solution or Workaround

As a workaround, configure the Category selector by choosing Defined values for the Categories and use the 'ALL' suffix with the 'contains' operator. This provides the single-select Category selector with the option to select all while retaining the default selection.

  1. In ArcGIS Online, navigate to Content > My content and open the item page of the hosted feature layer containing the field used for the Category selector.
  2. On the Data tab, in the Table view, edit each value of the required field to include the suffix 'ALL.' Refer to ArcGIS Online: Edit field values for more instructions. In this example, the 'Category' field's values are appended to the text 'ALL'.
The updated field values
Note:
If the "Data source does not exist or is inaccessible" warning is displayed, continue with the remaining steps to manually add the defined values. The warning clears once configuration is complete.
  1. Open the dashboard in ArcGIS Dashboards.
  2. From the Category selector, hover over the right side of More options The More option. and click Configure.
  3. In the Category selector window, on the Data tab, under Data options, set the configurations.
    1. For the Categories from, select Defined values.
    2. For the Value type, select String.
    3. Click Add value(s): 1 as required. In this example, the values are clicked three times. For the first two values, the string values 'Primary ALL' and 'Secondary ALL' are specified. For the final value, the suffix, 'ALL' is specified.
The configured Data options
  1. In the Selector tab, under Selector options, configure the options.
    1. Toggle Required selection on.
    2. For the Default selection, select the preferred default value. In this example, 'Primary' is selected.
    3. For the Operator, select contains.
  1. In the Actions tab, under When selection changes, click Filter to expand the action section, then toggle the feature layer on.
  2. Select the field to be displayed in the selector from the Target field drop-down.
  3. Click Done. Click Save The Save button. > Save.

The dashboard below shows the updated Category selector with the individual category values and the 'ALL' option.
