PROBLEM

Unable to save the operational layer transparency using the Layer List widget in ArcGIS Web AppBuilder

Last Published: August 19, 2021

Description

In ArcGIS Web AppBuilder, the transparency of an operational layer in a web app can be controlled using the Layer List widget.

Control the transparency of an operational layer by moving the transparency slider in the Layer List widget. The transparency of the polygon layer is set to around 50%.

However, the transparency changes cannot be saved, and upon refreshing the web app, the original transparency of the operational layer is displayed. In this example, the operational layer is opaque.

After refreshing the web app, the polygon layer is opaque and does not honor the transparency set in the Layer List widget.

Cause

In a web app, the transparency of an operational layer is displayed according to the transparency of the hosted feature layers in the web map. Changing the transparency using the Layer List widget in the web app does not modify the transparency.

Solution or Workaround

To change the transparency of an operational layer in a web app, change the transparency level of the hosted feature layer in the web map. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Set transparency for the steps to set the transparency for the layers. In this example, the transparency is set at 50%.

On the right vertical toolbar in Map Viewer, on the Properties pane, change the transparency of the hosted feature layer by moving the transparency slider.

Refresh the web app in ArcGIS Web AppBuilder. The transparency of the operational layer is changed.

In the web app, the polygon layer is displayed with a 50% transparency as set in the web map.
