PROBLEM

Unable to run a scheduled ModelBuilder model in ArcGIS Pro

Last Published: May 16, 2025

Description

When configuring a ModelBuilder model with a script tool, manually running the model in the Model view is successful. However, running a scheduled task on the model, or right-clicking a scheduled task in the History pane and clicking Run, fails.

Cause

  • The scheduled item contains unsupported characters such as spaces or special symbols.
  • The task is scheduled to run for a time set in the past.

Solution or Workaround

Rename the scheduled item

In ArcGIS Pro, identify the item containing the unsupported character, and rename it to follow the ArcGIS naming convention. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Change a model name and label for instructions. Additionally, for more information on invalid characters, refer to ArcGIS Pro: Field name rules and limitations and ArcGIS Pro: Feature class and table name rules and limitations.

Set the scheduled task to run in the future

  1. Open the ArcGIS Pro project.
  2. On the View tab, in the Windows group, click Catalog Pane.
  3. In the Catalog pane, right-click the model and select Open.
  4. In the Model pane, click the arrow next to Run and click Schedule.
  5. In the Schedule window, for the Begins On parameter, set a future date and time.
  6. Click OK.
