Unable to register a new spatiotemporal big data store with ArcGIS Server

Description

In some instances, when attempting to register a new spatiotemporal big data store with ArcGIS Server, the process fails and returns the following error message:

Error:
Machine https://<datastore_machine>.<domain>.<top-level_domain>:<port_number>/arcgis/datastoreadmin> returned an error. Attempt to configure data store failed. Caused by: Failed to configure spatiotemporal big data store. Caused by: Attempt to create ArcGIS Data Store configuration store failed. Caused by: <HTTP PUT request endpoint> failed. 
Code 401.
Error: Unauthorized

Cause

The leftover files from a previous data store configuration do not match with the current installation, such as those from a relational or tile cache data store. The current installation for the spatiotemporal big data store reuses the same folder because it has the same name, which resulted in the error.

Solution or Workaround

1. Stop the ArcGIS Data Store service.
   1. In the Windows search bar, type services, and click the Services icon.
   2. In the Services window, navigate to the ArcGIS Data Store service and click Stop.
2. Rename the ArcGIS DataStore directories.
   1. In File Explorer, navigate to the arcgisdatastore folder, which by default is in:

C:\

2. Rename the arcgisdatastore folder to arcgisdatastore_old.

3. Start the ArcGIS Data Store service.
   1. In the Windows search box, type services, and click the Services icon.
   2. In the Services window, navigate to the ArcGIS Data Store service and click Start.
4. Re-register the new spatiotemporal big data store. Refer to ArcGIS GeoEvent Server Help: Manage spatiotemporal big data stores for additional information.
