PROBLEM

Unable to log into Administrator after installing ColdFusion

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

Using Macromedia ColdFusion MX with Microsoft IIS and ArcIMS, problems result from the default installation of ColdFusion MX. Users may be unable to log into Administrator even though all services are running. ColdFusion-generated error messages appear in the ArcIMS Diagnostics test results. At ArcIMS 9.0, users may also see ERR0402. At ArcIMS 4.x, users may see the "URL ... is invalid" message.

Cause

ColdFusion MX installs a JRUN servlet ISAPI filter for IIS by default. If this filter is installed on the machine and made the default, the ArcIMS servlet connector may not function. This is the case if the ArcIMS servlet connector is installed within another servlet engine such as ServletExec or Tomcat on the same machine.

Solution or Workaround

Correct this issue by modifing the ISAPI filter configuration within the IIS management console.

  1. Open the Internet Services Manager for IIS.
  2. Expand the folder structure to view the 'Default Web Site' or the ArcIMS Web site if multiple Web sites are configured.
  3. Right-click on the site and select 'Properties'.
  4. Click on the 'ISAPI Filters' tab.
  5. Demote the 'JRUN Servlet Filter' sometimes listed as 'JRun Connector Filter' by moving it to the bottom of the list if possible, or simply remove this filter from the list altogether.
  6. Stop and Start the Web site. This can be done from the Internet Services Manager console, or from the Services dialog on the Control Panel.
