PROBLEM

Unable to load hosted services after restoring a previous ArcGIS Data Store backup

Last Published: March 16, 2026

Description

After restoring ArcGIS Data Store to a previous backup in ArcGIS Enterprise, the relational data store validates in the ArcGIS Server Administrator Directory but fails validation in ArcGIS Server Manager and the ArcGIS Enterprise portal, causing hosted services to fail to load. In some cases, the following error message is returned:

Error:
Failed to validate the server managed database '/enterpriseDatabases/AGSDataStore_ds_<DataStoreID>'.

Cause

Restoring ArcGIS Data Store from a backup can cause a validation discrepancy in which the relational data store validates in the ArcGIS Server Administrator Directory but fails validation in ArcGIS Server Manager. Because the hosting server cannot validate the server-managed database in Server Manager, hosted services become inaccessible.

Solution or Workaround

  1. Run the Windows Command Prompt as an administrator and navigate to the ArcGIS Data Store utilities folder. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: ArcGIS Data Store utility reference for more information.
  2. Run the 'unregisterdatastore' command utility to unregister the relational data store. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: unregisterdatastore for more information.
  3. Run the 'registerdatastore' command utility to reregister the relational data store. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: registerdatastore for more information.
