PROBLEM

Unable to edit the maximum record count for feature services in Portal for ArcGIS

Last Published: April 3, 2023

Description

Esri recommends a max record count of 5,000 or less. Instructions provided below describe the steps to increase the maximum record count in Portal for ArcGIS.

Solution or Workaround

To edit the maximum record count for feature services, follow the instructions below.

  1. Log in to ArcGIS Server Administrator Directory as a publisher or an administrator. Refer to ArcGIS Server: Introduction to the ArcGIS Server Administrator Directory for more information.
  2. On the Site Root - / page, for Resources:, click services.
The Site Root page.
  1. On the Folder - / page, click the folder name of the feature service, and click the name of the required service.
  2. On the Service page, for Supported Operations:, click edit.
The Service page with the edit option.
  1. On the Edit FeatureServer page, locate the maxRecordCount parameters in the Service Properties textbox, and make the necessary edits.
Note:
There are multiple maxRecordCount parameters throughout the JSON that need to be updated.
  1. Click Save Edits.
The Edit FeatureServer page for editing.
Note:
The max record count must not be set higher than the recommended number. A client requesting all the data in a single request may encounter a slow return of features, or a return of features too large to send across the Internet when the service max record count is set too high. Esri recommends a max record count of 5,000 or less.
