PROBLEM

Unable to display XY points in a project shared with everyone in ArcGIS Pro

Last Published: March 7, 2024

Description

In ArcGIS Pro, when point features are edited and added from a locally shared folder, the changes fail to synchronize and update for other users accessing the project. This results in inconsistencies where the points fail to display accurately on the map.

Cause

The feature being edited is located within a OneDrive folder, which may experience occasional desynchronization. Esri only supports certain types of cloud storage and OneDrive is excluded. Thus, when a OneDrive folder connection is added to ArcGIS Pro using unconventional methods, such as creating a shortcut using the 'mkdir' command in Microsoft Command Prompt or by dragging and dropping the folder into ArcGIS Pro, the folder is not properly connected to ArcGIS Pro, which may cause desynchronization.

Solution or Workaround

Export the data to a local folder

In this workaround, the XY point layer from its current location is exported to another folder within OneDrive. This ensures that the data is accessible and properly referenced within the ArcGIS Pro project.

  1. Open the ArcGIS Pro project.
  2. Navigate to the Analysis tab and click Tools. The Geoprocessing pane opens.
  3. In the Geoprocessing pane, search for and select the Export Features tool.
  4. Configure the parameters of the tool.
    1. For Input Features, select the XY point layer.
    2. For Output Features, click Browse and select a different destination folder within the OneDrive to export the data.
    3. Click Run.
  5. Update the data source of the exported data in the ArcGIS Pro project. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Update data sources for project items for instructions.

Run edits and share the feature outside of the edit session

In this workaround, edits made to the XY point data within ArcGIS Pro are completed and the updated feature layer is shared as a shapefile via OneDrive outside of the editing session.

  1. Open the ArcGIS Pro project.
  2. Save the edits made to the XY point layer. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Save edits with project saves for instructions.
  3. In the Catalog pane, under Project, double-click Databases to view the file geodatabase storing the XY point layer.
  4. Double-click the file geodatabase, right-click the XY point layer, point to Export, and select Feature Class to Shapefile.
  5. In the Export Features pane, leave all parameters as default and click Run.
  6. Upload the exported shapefile to the OneDrive account. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Share data in the cloud for more information.
