PROBLEM

Unable to display Snowflake geography data type in ArcGIS Data Pipelines

Last Published: March 6, 2026

Description

In ArcGIS Data Pipelines, adding Snowflake geography data type as input to the 'Create geometry' tool displays only the basemap with no data in the map preview.

Basemap of the Snowflake geography data type displays no data

Cause

Using an incorrect geometry format in the tool's parameter prevents the data from being displayed. In this example, the WKT or WKB format is selected instead of GeoJSON.

WKT and WKB define only the geometry format and do not include coordinate semantics, so their interpretation depends on the reference system. Whereas GeoJSON defines both the format and coordinates explicitly in WGS 84. When WKT or WKB is selected, the tool does not interpret the coordinates correctly.

Solution or Workaround

Change the geometry format to GeoJSON

  5. On the canvas, click the Create geometry tool.
Create geometry tool in the Data Pipelines canvas.
  6. In the Create geometry pane, for the Geometry format parameter, select GeoJSON.
Select GeoJSON from the Geometry format parameter drop-down menu of the Create geometry tool.
  7. In the Create geometry pane, click Preview to inspect the results.
Preview button in the Create geometry pane.
  8. In the preview pane, click Map preview to view the data on the map.
  9. In the Map preview option, click the Expand Expand icon in the Map preview option. icon and select a world basemap. In this example, the Topographic basemap is selected.
Topographic map is selected as the world basemap.
  1. Click the Collapse Collapse icon in the Map preview option. icon to view the full topographic map.
