PROBLEM

Unable to convert graphic text to an annotation feature class

Last Published: December 4, 2020

Description

Graphic text drawn on a map document can be converted to an annotation feature class using the Convert Graphics To Features command on the Draw toolbar. However, in some cases, attempting to use this command returns the following errors:

Error:
An error occurred when trying to save the object.
Error:

Cause

Graphic text cannot be saved as shapefiles outside of geodatabases. The geometry of graphics for conversion must match the geometry of output features. Text elements do not exist in shapefiles.
