Description
ArcGIS Field Maps is used to collect data and perform inspections in the field by mobile workers. However, in some instances, the Add button is unavailable upon launching the ArcGIS Field Maps app as shown in the image below.
Cause
- The app is possibly glitched and the cause of the glitch is unknown.
- The editing capability of the hosted feature layer is disabled.
- The feature layer is not hosted in ArcGIS Online.
- The member's default role or custom role has insufficient privileges to create features.
Solution or Workaround
Depending on the cause, use one of the workarounds below.
Make another copy of the layer in ArcGIS Online
Recreate the layer by saving another copy of the item in ArcGIS Online. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Save a layer for further instructions.
Enable the editing capabilities of the hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Online
- Log in to ArcGIS Online and click Content > My Content.
- Browse to and click the hosted feature layer.
- On the item details page, click the Settings tab.
- Scroll down to the Feature Layer (hosted) section and check the Enable editing check box.
- Click Save.
Publish the data as a hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Online
- In ArcGIS Online, publish the data as a hosted feature layer. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Publish hosted feature layers for instructions.
- Enable the editing capabilities of the hosted feature layer. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Settings that control editing access to check the Enable editing check box.
- Add the hosted feature layer to the web map. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Add layers to maps (Map Viewer) for instructions.
- If necessary, remove the old non-hosted feature layer from the web map. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Manage and organize layers for instructions.
- Click Save and open and select Save.
Update the user's default or custom role with the privilege to create features
Note:
Only default administrators and custom roles with administrator privileges can perform the following workflow.
In ArcGIS Online, change the user's role to Data Editor, User, Publisher, Facilitator, or Administrator. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Change member roles for more information.
For the custom role, enable Edit or Edit with full control. Refer to the following workaround.
Note:
To create a new custom role, refer to ArcGIS Online: Configure member roles and skip to Step 4.
- Log in to ArcGIS Online and click Organization > Settings.
- Click Member roles on the left side of the page.
- To configure an existing custom role, click More options and select Edit.
- In the Edit role window, under Role privileges, expand Features and toggle Edit or Edit with full control, depending on the user’s preference.
- Click Save.
