PROBLEM

Unable to add a routing utility service to the Directions widget in ArcGIS Experience Builder

Last Published: June 18, 2024

Description

When configuring the Directions widget in ArcGIS Experience builder, a routing utility service must be added to enable its functionality. The following generic error message is returned when attempting to add a routing utility service:

Error:
This utility service is not supported.

The image below shows the error message displayed when entering the service URL in the Add utility panel.

Cause

A travel mode is not configured on the network dataset the routing utility service is sourced from. The Directions widget requires a mode of transportation to calculate the fastest route from one location to another by distance or time. This is achieved through the retrieve travel modes service, which retrieves supported travel modes configured on the network dataset when performing a network analysis.

Solution or Workaround

  1. In ArcGIS Pro, create a travel mode for the network dataset.
  2. Republish the service and add it to the ArcGIS Experience Builder web app.
