Cause

This issue occurs when the GPX file is too large. Larger file sizes may require longer processing times, depending on the connectivity and processing capabilities of the browser and machine.

Solution or Workaround

Convert the GPX file to a feature layer in ArcGIS Pro using the GPX To Features tool, and publish it as a hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Online. To do so, follow the steps below.

Note:
It is a known limitation that GPX files cannot be added as items through the My Content tab on the Content page. They can only be added to ArcGIS Online by adding the file in Map Viewer. Refer to ArcGIS Online: GPX files for more information.
  1. Launch ArcGIS Pro, create a project , and log in to ArcGIS Online with privileges to publish hosted feature layers.
  2. In the Geoprocessing pane, search for the GPX To Features tool. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Run a tool in the Geoprocessing pane for steps to do this.
  3. In the GPX To Features pane, configure the Parameters tab as follows:
    1. For Input GPX File, click Browse…. Image of the Browse.... icon to browse and select the GPX file.
    2. Provide a name for Output Feature class, and click Browse…. Image of the Browse.... icon to save the feature in the desired location.
    3. Click Run. The new dataset created by the GPX To Features tool is automatically added to the map.
