PROBLEM
When attempting to add a GPX file to a web map in ArcGIS Online Map Viewer, ArcGIS Online becomes unresponsive or experiences slow performance, and a warning pop-up is displayed in the browser. The image below shows the warning displayed when a GPX file (GPX Map) is added to a web map in Map Viewer.
This issue occurs when the GPX file is too large. Larger file sizes may require longer processing times, depending on the connectivity and processing capabilities of the browser and machine.
Convert the GPX file to a feature layer in ArcGIS Pro using the GPX To Features tool, and publish it as a hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Online. To do so, follow the steps below.
Note: It is a known limitation that GPX files cannot be added as items through the My Content tab on the Content page. They can only be added to ArcGIS Online by adding the file in Map Viewer. Refer to ArcGIS Online: GPX files for more information.
The image below shows the GPX file is added to the ArcGIS Online web map as a hosted feature layer.
