Unable to access ArcGIS Event Editor after configuring IWA in ArcGIS Enterprise

Description

Integrated Windows Authentication (IWA) allows secured access to ArcGIS Enterprise and its apps by managing logins through Microsoft Windows Active Directory. In certain cases, attempts to access ArcGIS Event Editor after configuring IWA in ArcGIS Enterprise fail, and return the following error message:

Error:   
Cannot access Portal with user <UserName>.

Integrated Windows Authentication (IWA) has been enabled on Event Editor. Please contact your Portal administrator to make sure IWA has been enabled on Portal and that you have a corresponding Portal user account.

Cause

• The Windows Authentication option is disabled for ArcGIS Web Adaptor.
• ArcGIS Event Editor is not configured to use IWA.
• The ‘Host name’ parameter of the bound site is populated in Internet Information Server (IIS) Manager.

Solution or Workaround

Depending on the cause, use one of the solutions below to resolve the issue.

Enable the Windows Authentication option for ArcGIS Web Adaptor

In IIS Manager, enable the Windows Authentication option to configure ArcGIS Web Adaptor with IWA. Refer to Portal for ArcGIS: Configure ArcGIS Web Adaptor to use IWA for more information.

Configure ArcGIS Event Editor to use IWA

Configure the ArcGIS Event Editor security to use IWA to allow access to the ArcGIS Event Editor web app. Refer to ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing Server: Configuring security through Integrated Windows Authentication for instructions.

Remove the hostname in IIS Manager

1. In IIS Manager, select the site in the tree view.
2. In the Action pane, click Bindings.
3. In the Site Bindings dialog box, click the port from the list, and click Edit.
4. In the Edit Site Binding dialog box, remove the host entry in the Host name parameter and click OK.
