Problem: TIFF Files Are Not Being Recognized by ArcGIS

Description

TIFF files do not appear in any dialog box of ArcGIS and appear not to be a recognized file format.

Cause

The cause of this can vary widely, from a bad installation to a DLL conflict between ArcGIS and other software.

Solution or Workaround

-- Uninstall and reinstall ArcGIS with the Cleanup option.

Note:
Disregard the version mentioned in the Cleanup instructions, as the install is the same for all versions.

-- If the clean reinstall does not resolve the problem it is possible there is a DLL conflict. Obtain the service pack in the link below: ESRI Support Center > Downloads > Patches and Service Packs. Click ArcView 8.x, and find ArcGIS 8.2 Service Pack 1.
