Description
In some cases, the hint text configured on the item details page in the web map does not display in the Search box of the Map widget in ArcGIS Experience Builder.
The image below demonstrates the hint text configured in a web map.
The image below shows the default hint text instead of the customized hint text is displayed in the Search box of the Map widget in ArcGIS Experience Builder.
Cause
This is by design. The customized hint text is displayed only if the map or layer with the customized hint text is selected from the drop-down menu in the Search box.
Solution or Workaround
Select the map or layer with the customized hint text from the drop-down menu in the Search box
- Open the ArcGIS Experience Builder project and navigate to the Search tool on the map.
- In the Search box, click the drop-down arrow.
- Select the map or layer with the customized hint text.
Add the Search widget to the ArcGIS Experience Builder project
Note:
If required, disable the Search tool in the Map widget before continuing with the workflow. In the Map widget pane, click Content, navigate to the Tools section, and toggle Search off.
- Open the ArcGIS Experience Builder project and click the Insert icon.
- In the Insert widget pane, search for and drag the Search widget to the map.
- In the Search pane, click Content > New search source. Select the data source for the feature layer to search.
- In the Set layer source pane, edit the Label and Icon sections if necessary.

- For Select searching fields, select one or more fields to search in the layer.
