PROBLEM

The Query option for stand-alone tables in the Format Table Frame pane is inactive in ArcGIS Pro

Last Published: May 21, 2020

Description

The Query option is inactive when a stand-alone table is selected from the Table drop-down list in the Format Table Frame pane. Therefore, rows from the stand-alone table cannot be updated dynamically in the Table Frame based on a map series, as the 'Map series rows' option from the Query drop-down list is unavailable.

Cause

This is a known limitation, as stand-alone tables are not visible in the map extent. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Modify a table frame for more information.

Solution or Workaround

A workaround is to create a spatial join between the stand-alone table and an index feature class within the map extent to add the required rows from the stand-alone table to the feature class attribute table. Refer to How To: Join an Excel spreadsheet to a feature class in ArcGIS Pro for steps to do this.

These rows can be queried as a map series when the feature class attribute table is selected from the Table drop-down list in the Format Table Frame pane.
