The option to view a map package is unavailable in ArcGIS Online

Description

In ArcGIS Online, when attempting to view a map package shared from ArcGIS Pro, the option to view it in Map Viewer or Map Viewer Classic is not available on the item details page, as shown in the image below.

Cause

This is a known limitation. Map packages are not supported in ArcGIS Online, and map packages created in ArcGIS Pro can only be used in ArcGIS Pro. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Introduction to sharing packages for more information.

Solution or Workaround

In ArcGIS Pro, publish the layer as a web layer to view it in ArcGIS Online Map Viewer or Map Viewer Classic.

Publish the layer to ArcGIS Online. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Share a web feature layer for steps to do this.
