The New User option is disabled in ArcGIS Server Manager

Description

The Security module in ArcGIS Server Manager contains a Users page that allows new users to be added to the built-in store via the New User option. In some cases, administrators are unable to add their new users because the New Users option is disabled in ArcGIS Server Manager.

Cause

  • The Users and roles from ArcGIS Server's built-in store option is not selected in the Security Configuration Wizard. This option allows new users to be added to the built-in store and is not controlled by the Windows Domain or Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP).
  • ArcGIS Server is federated with Portal for ArcGIS. The user store of a federated ArcGIS Server site is managed by Portal for ArcGIS.

Solution or Workaround

Depending on the cause, the following workarounds are applicable.

Change the source of users and roles in the Security Configuration Wizard

In ArcGIS Server Manager, select the Users and roles from ArcGIS Server's built-in store option in the Security Configuration Wizard to enable the New Users option and add new users to the built-in store. Refer to ArcGIS Server: Configure ArcGIS Server security for more information.

Add the new users to Portal for ArcGIS

Add the new users to Portal for ArcGIS to update the user store of ArcGIS Server in a federated ArcGIS Enterprise deployment. Refer to Portal for ArcGIS: Add members to your portal for instructions.
