PROBLEM

The Location Sharing layer fails to load in ArcGIS Field Maps

Last Published: April 9, 2024

Description

When attempting to open a map with the Location Sharing layer in ArcGIS Field Maps, the Location Sharing layer fails to load.

The Location Sharing layer fails to load in the ArcGIs Field Maps app

Cause

The location sharing setting is disabled in ArcGIS Online after the layer is added to the web map. The Location Sharing layer is automatically created when the location sharing setting is enabled in the organization settings of the ArcGIS Online organization account, and when the setting is disabled, the layer is deleted from the organization's ArcGIS Online content page. Although the layer is deleted from the content page, the web map retains the layer in the map. Thus, the map with the Location Sharing layer fails to load in the ArcGIS Field Maps app.

Solution or Workaround

To resolve the issue, enable the location sharing setting using an administrator account. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Enable location sharing for instructions. Additionally, if the track view layer created using ArcGIS Track Viewer for the Location Sharing layer is used in the web map, the view layer must be recreated and re-added to the web map to be usable.
